Charcoal and Solid (Marble and Spotted)
Overview
I have grouped the charcoal and solid bengal together due to the fact that the genes responsible for these two are found on the same loci. The solid bengal is a solid colored cat with minimal pattern showing through. The solid(melansitic) cat can come in any other color silver(smoke), snow, blue, etc...The charcoal bengal is found only in the bengal and is due to the Asian Leopard cat agouti variant. The charcoal has a distinct mask and cape in a variety of colors. The pattern is visible but very dark.
Genetics
The genes responsible for these patterns(color) actually effect the pattern which intern effects the color. The solid cat is genetically a/a. It carries two non-agouti alleles which are both recessive to the Agouti gene. The cat lacks any pattern therefor is a solid color.
Charcoal cats are apb/a they carry one non-agouti allele and one Asian Leopard cat agouti allele. This genotype leads to the unusual phenotype of the charcoal cat.
